Jay developed a passion for cooking western style Chinese food at the Cochrane Cafe. Owners Sue and Joe Steinstra took him under their wing when he was just a teenager and taught him everything he needed to know about cooking. Jay then went on to take the culinary program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and the rest is history!
At the Cafe, he learned how to put his own personal touch on his creations. Jay's ginger beef is his signature dish and has an extra kick that makes it unique. Once you try it, you will never forget it! He also enjoys experimenting with other dishes and is currently working on recipes for his backyard smoker and barbecue. Stay tuned for a cookbook written by Jay including his favourite recipes!
When Jay isn't cooking or brainstorming new recipes, he can be found adventuring in the backcountry. He also enjoys trying an extensive variety of local and international beers while he listens to his vintage record player. And of course, he loves to ride his motorcycle whenever he gets the chance!
